'Role' Models are 'Roll(ing)' Models

It seems like an year for personality degeneration. The very superior sporting icons of the world have shown us a ghastly underbelly of their superfluous existence. It might also seem strange that most of them seemed to have emerged out of USA, a sporting culture driven country that has produced great champions and ambassadors of many world sports. No! I am not prescribing an anti-USA feeling or punching a sarcasm as such. It's more a feeling of loss of faith in idolising or modelling myself to a set of individuals from the USA, who have been dwelling the iconic and godly spaces in my mind (and those of a lot more like me, I am sure)!.

From the glory in the depths of an olympic swimming pool to shameful depths in personal indiscretions of 'Cannabis' smoking is a real 'watery' shocker by Michael Phelps!

From the aura of greatness in being a Grand slam champion of repute in this Open era of tennis to the shameful aura of acknowledging to the use of 'Crystal Meth' (that too post-retirement) is a real 'racket' created, of personal ethics by andre Agassi!

From the athletic realms of superior sportmanship in being a dignified-glorified champion in Women's tennis (which has seen greats like the Kings, the Navratilovas & the Grafs) to the shameful realms of indecency (nudity modelling) and unsportsman behaviour (profanity and threats hurled at a lineswoman in a grand slam) is a real shoddy profile presented by Serena Williams!

The last, the worst and possibly the most hurting of them all is from the fairway greens of consistency, excellence and domination in world golf to the lowest ebb of human character failure by Tiger Woods, is a loss of faith in role-modelling!

I am sure that these extra-ordinary people whom we ape or pin up as role models in our common lives need to exercise greater restraint and control in preserving the faith we have bestowed upon them. I feel that a greater sense of purpose must always underline our present actions, temporary feelings and urges for personal gratification in more unconventional means/methods (like the ones demonstrated by our illustrious 4 mentioned above).

I also, would like to see their perspective in terms of them being able to exercise their privacy in their own personal ways and means and being able to do as they please to illustrate their fortune/earnings; but I am sure they too, would not like their children or loved ones to do what they have done and be able to look themselves in the mirror without a feeling of guilt or shame. Maybe the room at the top makes these people that way. However, there are other names in the same league of extraordinariness who still redeem our faith in this system. So please! 'Role Models' beware! You have a lot of people looking up to you....Don't let us down! God sent us all on earth to live and tell our tales...so, appreciate the greatness that you have realised in your achievements with all humility and live up to tell your tale with pride!
